I drove a mother and her infant child to the checkpoint, from Rambam hospital. M. is a sweet smiling baby, who sang to himself throughout the entire trip, as if he does not go back and forth to the hospital daily to undergo treatments. The mother and I spoke a little and they both fell asleep. Upon arrival at the checkpoint they hurried to finish yet another long day of travel and medical treatments.
The checkpoint was quiet and a few pedestrians as well as vehicles had crossed it on both directions.
Five minutes later I was approached by the security man who spoke to me in English, asking what I was doing there. As weird as it may sound, the gentleman has been working there for a few years and never heard about us….. I told him about MachsomWatch and about our activities.
At 15:00 the pace of the traffic picked up . Men and women, most of them returning home from their daily work in the Seam line zone. Most of them do farming work.
I was surprised to watch a calm checkpoint. It was evident that people seemed pleased with my presence.
15:50 I left.
