Etzion DCO: The conversation is pleasant, the topics are not

Place: Etzion DCO
Observers: Shlomit Steinitz, Natanya Ginsburg (reportin)
Aug-18-2025
| Morning

The waiting room had actually been cleaned but the maps were still lying on the chairs and on the floor. The toilet is filthy and the women’s toilet locked as it has been for  years.

We went to Alon Shvut to pay one man’s fine.  The female clerk was very polite and patient but could not process the fine. Shlomit said that perhaps the identity number had been written incorrectly,  but the clerk replied  that she was also unable to process the fines for 3 men whose contractor came by to pay.. Shlomit phoned the police twice. First they said they had no such id number and gave her another phone number to verify the fine. The people on the other end of that number sent her to yet another number in Binyay Klal. A friend of hers will go to the post office and try to pay it there.

The added  checkpoint at  Rami Levi has been altered to ensure that the Palestinians cannot pass without stopping.
We entered the hall which had just been cleaned!! At last after nearly two weeks.–Five men were sitting there, all of whom had been summoned by the GSS. All were teachers from different schools so they all have jobs. We had a pleasant meeting with them though the conversation did not revolve of course around pleasant matters.

One of the men had many questions about how we saw the situation and also about Machsom Watch. He apologised for asking so many questions, but we answered as well as we could. He asked why do we come when there was nothing we could do to help and, as always, we explained that it was better that we came and saw and reported. He wanted to know if there were  young people in our organization and we explained that we are a women’s organization, and that it is difficult for young people who have studies and family to come in the mornings. But we said there are many young people who come to the demonstrations. He asked if we were optimistic about the future to which we said, sadly, no. He asked if we thought that continuing the war would solve anything and we said no. We showed them pictures of the demonstration at `Nofim`.

A man showed a picture of how his car was taken from him two years ago and was not returned claiming that it or he belonged to Hamas.  What did the car actually do?  Was the car then brought to justice? The state of Israel is growing more and more Kafkaesque. .
