Anata, Ar-Ram, Qalandiya, Thursday 23.9.2005, AMWatchers: Tamar A. Efrat B. (reporting)Anata 9.40 Only one line of cars. Why should things be made easy? Fifteen cars moving slowly and being checked. Very many pedestrians. People without permits are sent back. When we ask if there is a closure the soldiers reply as one man that they have no idea. A while later the commander comes up to us and introduces himself apologizing for the distance ( who cares?). He says that there is a sort of closure because of warnings of happenings on the Temple Mount. Men over 60 can pass and women over 55. But an elderly man is refused which shows how arbitrary this is.The head of the neighborhood committee brings us up to date about the demonstration against the fence which will be on th 27th September in the Zafra centre at 5.30.Ar-ram 10.40 About 17 cars in line passing slowly. The commander replies to our question about a closure: “Negative”, and that older people are allowed to pass without permits and according to how they look. That is if they do not look suspicious according to him. An old woman is sent back and we are told that this is because she tried to slip through twice. At 12.20, when we came back, about nine cars were waiting 12 minutes to a car.11.30 Qalandiya A procession of bicycles from Rabat Amon to Ramallah (with newspaper coverage) . Few cars and even less pedestrians. The sad routine.
