Qalandiya, November 8th, PMObservers: Tzipi E. and Ronny P.This was my first shift after 3 months of absence from Israel and from the first moment it is so striking to observe the demolition, the totally arbitrary rubble mountains and the wall and the empty , desolate lots in between houses. It is amazing to see how people function and adjust to every deterioration. At the checkpoint itself people and cars were passing and we got busy about the only detained woman – a nurse at the Ramallah hospital who lives near Ar-Ram. The soldier treated the couple (her husband got through) with the usual disrespect and we decided that we shall not leave until the woman is released and told him so. Miraculously he could make a phonecall and miraculously the awaited “clearance” came through and the woman and her anxious husband could leave. It was not an easy shift for us…
