Abu Dis Wednesday PM, 16.11.05Observers: Tami B., Maya BH (reporting)Abu Dis: BP up on the hill, BP at the present gate. The wall isunchanged, even after Hilary’s visit. Nothing special to report.Abu Dis DCO: Quiet. Hardly any “customers”. The few we saw were eithersatisfied, or resigned. Nobody solicited our help, but we tried to helpanyway. According to his own account, one man comes there every day, because the paper he requested is promised for “tomorrow” over andover. According to the soldiers at the window, the machine that issupposed to produce the requested document is broken. This explanationbrought a cynical smile to the man’s face, but actually sounded like itwas the truth. Sometimes what seems evil is sheer incompetence. When weleave, 2 men are standing outside, waiting to be let in. But there is nosoldier manning the elevated booth from where the carousel is governed.10 minutes later, they are let in. There seems to be some confusion aboutthe opening times. Several nicely printed notices say till 15:00, butboth one soldier and some Palestinians seem to think it is 14:00. We leftat 14:00, and it was still open.Container CP: As we parked our car outside the open yellow gate, asoldier came by to close it. Against us? We never even try to pass it.Moments later, an army vehicle came, and pushed the gate open without evenhaving to alight. So much for that gate. It was the changing of theguard. Soldiers came, soldiers left, we were ignored. But vehiclesseemed to be passed at a reasonable rate. Some were stopped for papers,in both directions, but none were held for long.
