Abu-Dis Wednesday, 5.4.2006Observers: Daniela G., Maya BH (reporting), a guestAbu-Dis wall- Whilst we were there (circa 2pm), there were no soldiers to be seen anywhere. It was a cold and rainy day, and so there was also little pedestrian traffic walking through the not yet closed openings in the wall.Abu-Dis DCO – Only a trickle of people. One older man was waiting patiently for a permit to take his daughter for a surgical procedure. He had been coming on and and off throughout the day, he said, but was confident about getting the permit. The Container – The southbound line of yellow transits and trucks was so long that it went up the hill to Sawahre and there disappeared behind the hill. However, the pace at which each approaching vehicle was checked (and today they were all checked, some more thoroughly, some less) seemed reasonable. Even transits told to pull aside until the ID’s of all passengers had been phoned in and checked, did not wait for more than 10-15 minutes. So we assumed that the soldiers were on the careful lookout for something, by order. This was to be corroborated in the Ezyon CP later on. Although when we left the line was still as long as ever, we did not see grounds for intervention – the soldiers seemed to be doing their job diligently and politely.
