Abu-Dis, Zeitim CP, The ContainerThursday , 11.5.2006, PMObservers: Dvora G., Uri A., Dafna S (reporting)Abu-Dis : 15:00 Lower Pshpash No traffic; a border police vehicle is combing the area. 3 soldiers stand opposite the upper opening where work is in progress. In the Upper Pishpash near the monastery one male and one female soldier check those crossing. They detain a group of workmen, filling forms and reporting on the wireless while the men stand in the sun. We point this out, and the men are moved to the shade. The female soldier comes up to us and explains her task – to check those crossing without permits, who might be potential terrorists. We repeat our objection to making them stand in the heat of the sun. The soldier agrees that they should be moved to the shade and that the investigations should be performed quickly. And so it was.Two men who present themselves as taxi drivers approach us and tell of the hardships of residents who require medical services but are not given permits to cross. They add that there is no possibility of receiving treatment or vaccinations in Abu-Dis, Al-Ezariya or Sawahre.Zeitim CP – Empty – people cross through the surrounding wadi. Two taxi drivers tell us that people don’t use the crossing, they find alternative ways, and the place is almost always empty. The Container -The vehicles cross slowly, but with almost no checks. No detainees. The workmen are required to pass through the carousel and show their documents.17:00 – Back to Jerusalem
