Abu-Dis, The ContainerThursday, 10.08,2006, AM (06:30-09:15)Observers: Milli M., Tamar A. (reporting)Zeitim CP: 06:55-07:30 – Closure. In the course of 35 mins. 21 men and 13 women cross. One checking point is open. At 07:05 checking pauses for a few minutes, the female soldier announces on the loudspeaker: “There’s a power outage, Wait a minute.” One of the men, replacing his belt, tells us: “We look as though we’re coming out of the bathroom.”The entrance to Al-Ezariya: 07:40 – A border police jeep in the direction of the exit. A line of about 7 vehicles. The Container: 07:45-08:20 – Short lines – not more than 5 vehicles from the direction of Al-Ezariya, and not more than 10 from the direction of Bethlehem – relatively rapid crossing without checks, or with a quick glance at the document, so that there are times when the checkpoint is almost empty until more vehicles arrive. During our stay 6 transits and one utility vehicle from the direction of Bethlehem were delayed. Most were released within 5 minutes, one transit after 15 minutes, and we don’t know how long the two transits which were released 5 mins. after our arrival had had to wait. 10 pedestrians crossed from the direction of Bethlehem.DCO Abu-Dis: 08:30-08:55 – The DCO opens officially at 08:30 and in practice at 08:34. At 8:30 3 women, 2 men and a child are already waiting, and during the next 25 minutes another 6 men and 5 women arrive. All must arrive on foot over the hill along a steep path (on the other side apparently there’s a road), since access to the road leading to the DCO is through the apartheid road to Kader (??). The carousel at the enctrance to the DCO area is controlled by a border policeman at the push of a button. To perform this, he must climb into a tower in the neighbouring border-police camp. All those gathered at 08:34 enter immediately; later arrivals must wait a couple of minutes until the policeman climbs into the tower again. Both windows are open, 15 minutes later the first one exits after his affair has been taken care of, 2 men are sent to the canopied waiting areaThe Entrance to Al-Ezariya : 08:55 – The jeep is still there.Az-Za’ayyem CP: 09:00 – Traffic of settlers flowing in two lanes. In the third lane an ambulance and bus are delayed.
