Aanin,Shaked and Rihan
Aanin,Shaked and Rihan, Thursday, 12.7.2007, a.m.Observers: Dvora S., Leah R. (reporting)07:15 -9:00Translation: Yael Bassis-Student07:15 – Aanin checkpoint -An important educational maneuver took place today: The agriculture permits of people who, according to the military listing, did not return on the same day they went out – those permits were confiscated. Some farmers didn’t get home within a week even. Apparently the army worries about their marital well being and wants to make sure that all men sleeps along side their wives. We did not see the actual confiscation operation but rather heard about it from Palestinians who were permitted to go through as well as from proud soldiers. There was also an attending officer on sight.07:45 Shaked-Tura checkpoint – Those going through praise the way soldiers treats them. Yesterday was a bad day but today the soldiers were displaced and the handling of people at the inspection post is much better. Those soldiers also approached us and made a good impression on us.As it seems one can be a good soldier and a good person at the same time. One Palestinian tells us: I live on the other side of the fence. I have a work permit to work in Israel.and have been working with the same family in Israel, starting with the grand-father, later with the son and now I work for the grand-son. Going to work from my home, through the Shaked checkpoint, takes half an hour, but I am made to go through Jalama or the Tiebe checkpoint which takes about 3 hours and cost money. Today he received a special permit to cross through Shaked due to his father’s illness who lives at the seam line zone. He would have liked to stay longer and tend to his father but his one day permit allows him to stay not later than 7:00 pm.08:10 – Rihan-Barta’a checkpoint – All appears tranquil, but people complains of difficulties arriving at the gate due to the checkpoints at Mevoh-Dotan-Amricha and in Geba, on the way to Nablus. 09:00 -We leave and driving through Barta’a. We spoke to the owner of the nursery. He passes through Rihan daily. He says that at times he is being held for a long time at the terminal until he is inspected. There are time that he needs to wait and hour and a half. Once he had to knock on the wall for attention.People appears tired and despair, someone says :”Perhaps we need, one year, to tray and do thing differently”To me it seems like a very good idea.

North of Jenin, on the Green Line between Israel and the West Bank. A big terminal for the passage of Palestinians with permits allowing entrance into Israel and goods into Israel operates there. In the course of 2009 the terminal was opened for the passage of Israeli Arabic citizens into the West Bank. Since October 2009 they may pass in their cars.
