Abu-Dis
Abu Dis, 0720: Even before the gas
station we encountered BPs gathering passersby. Threatened by the
BPs ourselves, we left.
Sawahre, 0750: On the way we saw the massive “manhunt”
and ID confiscation. There was an endless queue of cars Abu-Dis
bound. Near the container were 250-300 people, and the soldiers
held a huge pile of IDs. The CP opened only at 10:00. All our
queries met with a single reply: “These are the orders”.
The number of people waiting grew larger and larger, and the many
soldiers were taking their time, sitting in the shade and drinking.
“We don’t care if they all fry in the sun”. We
volunteered to help in listing the IDs ourselves, and were, of
course, rejected. By the time we left 4.5 hours later, people were
still waiting, and new people were arriving from both directions.
We estimate that about 700-800 had passed, or were waiting, during
our shift. Only the car queue had disappeared.
