Anabta
Anabta, Thursday, December 28, 2006, a.m. Observers: Anat S., Tal S., Yf’at D. (reporting)Translation: Galia S. General Description: The soldiers are not aware of their power and status as rulers and do not hesitate to be helped by the people who pass the checkpoints in correcting the language. It is peculiar how sharp and clear the sight of a threatening deadly weapon can be to the person at whom it is pointed and at the same time repressed and ignored by the person who may pull the trigger. 07:35 – There are no cars. Anabta10:21 – There is no line of cars. On the way to Jubara, we notice, on the way down from Shufa, a Palestinian taxi whose passengers are waiting outside and military jeep with four soldiers sitting in it. The soldiers claim that the driver has stopped near Jubara on a road allowed to Israeli cars only for the third time today. He goes there to pick up passengers. The soldiers have confiscated his ID and the car keys and said that they called to get an instruction that will tell them what to do. The driver claims that the access road to the area that Palestinian cars are allowed to use is blocked. The passengers are waiting with him and among them there is a sick boy, about five years old, on his way to the doctor. In the meantime, they explain to us that prior to the year 2000 there was a road from their village to Tulkarm and it took them ten minutes to get there. However, since the army blocked the road, the only way they are allowed to go is through Anabta. Altogether, considering the waiting time at the checkpoint, it takes them close to an hour to get there (about half an hour without the checkpoint). The passengers (some eight of them) make a small fire to get warm. About half an hour later, the soldiers let them go.
