14:50 – A’anin Checkpoint
We as well as the soldiers arrived a bit early. About 20 people and two tractors were already waiting and the checkpoint opened at 15:00 before the official opening time. Everyone crossed, including those who arrived a little after 15:00.
15:15 – Tura – Shaked Checkpoint
A woman with a baby and three other small children and many large bags were waiting under the shed for a ride to Um Reihan in the seamline zone. A young man, a boy and a tractor crossed to the West Bank. Another woman was waiting for her husband to come with their car, which was being checked. Two young men crossed with a wagon pulled by a donkey prancing merrily. That was all the traffic that arrived at this hour.
15:40 – We met A. at Reihan Barta’a Checkpoint on the Palestinian side. He had finally succeeded in obtaining a permit to enter Israel after being banned for many years and a lot of effort on the part of Tami. Unfortunately, after only 12 days at work a large brick fell on his head and he was injured. Luckily he was wearing a helmet and was not more seriously injured. His right elbow was broken and he was taken to Bailinson Hospital (Israel) in an ambulance and underwent surgery and was hospitalized. He was well cared for and went back for a follow-up visit and will go back in March for another follow-up checkup. He has six months of sick leave but was not paid for the 12 days that he worked. He has also not received approval for payment of his hospitalization from the National Insurance Institute or financial compensation for the six weeks he is not working. We gave him the phone humbler of the workers’ hotline and hope they can help.
16:00 – Yaabed Dotan Checkpoint

There is not a long line of cars at this hour. The dirt road is still blocked with barbed wire. There is still enough space between the concrete blocks for cars to pass through in both directions at once. It is very difficult for trucks to pass through, and the potholes in the road in the middle of the checkpoint make it difficult to maneuver. The picture does not show how deep the potholes are.
A settler from Mevo Dotan stopped and asked if we needed help. We explained to him what we were doing and he sincerely wished us well. When we were ready to leave two army cars pulled up and an officer ordered us to stop and told the other driver to check to see who we were. The soldier spoke with us and then wished us a pleasant day.
16:30 – Barta’a Checkpoint, Palestinian Side
The parking lots at the checkpoint and along the road are full. One of the cars has a sticker on the window in Arabic and Hebrew saying that parking is forbidden. We parked outside. A large group of people are returning home at this hour. A prayer corner is being set up underneath the shed with a divider and door, and there are prayer rugs spread on the floor. We were told that East Barta’a Regional Council is setting up the mosque.
17:00 – On our way back to the car people approached us who had been banned from entering Israel. We gave them Sylvia’s phone number and wished them luck.

14:50 הקדמנו קצת, גם החיילים הקדימו. כ-20 איש ושני טרקטורים כבר ממתינים והמחסום נפתח בשלוש, לפני שעה הרשמית. כולם עוברים, גם אלה שמגיעים קצת אחרי שלוש.
15:15 מחסום טורה-שקד
אישה עם תינוק ועוד שלושה בנים קטנים וצרורות גדולים ממתינים בסככה להסעה לאום ריחן במרחב התפר. לגדה עוברים צעיר וילד וטרקטור אחד. עוד אשה ממתינה למכונית של בעלה שנבדקת במחסום, ועוברים גם שני נערים בעגלה רתומה לחמור המקפץ בעליזות. זו כל התנועה בשעה זו.
15:40 פגישה עם א’ סמוך למחסום ברטעה בצד הפלסטיני
א’ זכה לקבל אישור כניסה לישראל ומקום עבודה אחרי שנים רבות של מניעה ומאמצים רבים של תמי. לרוע מזלו, אחרי 12 ימי עבודה נפל עליו בלוק גדול, הוא נפגע בראשו ולמרבה המזל היה חבוש בקסדה ונמנעה פגיעה חמורה יותר. מרפק ימינו נשבר והוא הובהל באמבולנס לבית חולים בלינסון לניתוח. ושבר את מרפק ימין. למרבה המזל חבש קסדהביום השנים עשר לעבודתו בבניין, נפל עליו בלוק גדול וכבד וגרם לפגיעה בראשו ולשבר במרפק ידו הימנית. למזלו היה א’ חבוש קסדת מגן שהגנה על ראשו מפגיעה חמורה יותר. הוא עבר ניתוח ואושפז. נראה שהטיפול היה טוב ומסור. א’ היה כבר בביקורת אחת ומוזמן באמצע מרס לביקורת נוספת. בסיכום האשפוז מוזכרת גם חופשת מחלה של שישה שבועות. א’ לא קיבל שכר עבור 12 הימים שעבד. הוא לא קיבל בינתיים גם אישור מביטוח לאומי עבור התשלום לבית החולים ועבור ימי חופשת המחלה. נתנו לו את מספר הטלפון של קו לעובד, בתקווה שיוכלו לסייע.
16:00 מחסום יעבד-דותן
בשעה זו אין תור של מכוניות. דרך העפר עדיין חסומה בתיל. אולי הגדילו קצת את הרווח בין קוביות הבטון, כך שיכולות לעבור מכוניות בשני הכיוונים בו זמנית. למשאית קשה מאוד לתמרן בין הבטונדות. גם החריצים בכביש במרכז המחסום מכבידים מאוד. בתמונה לא רואים את עומק חריצים.
מתנחל ממבוא דותן עוצר ושואל אם אנחנו זקוקות לעזרה. הסברנו לו מי ומה אנחנו והוא אחל לנו כל טוב בכנות. כשעזבנו נזעקות לעברנו שתי מכוניות צבאיות, קצין הורה לנו בתקיפות לעצור ואמר לנהג המכונית השנייה לברר מי אנחנו. החייל מברר ואף הוא מאחל לנו יום נעים.
16:30 מחסום ברטעה הצד הפלסטיני
מגרשי החנייה בתחום המחסום ובסביבתו מלאים. על חלון אחת המכוניות מדבקה גדולה ועליה כתוב בערבית ובעברית שהחנייה במקום אסורה. חנינו בחוץ.
המון רב של אנשים חוזרים בשעה זו מעבודתם. בסככה הולכת ומוקמת פינת תפילה מושקעת עם מחיצות ודלת. על הרצפה פרושים שטיחים לתפילה. נאמר לנו שמועצת ברטעה (המזרחית כנראה) מקימה את ה”מסגד”. דוכן התה והחטיפים פעיל גם הוא.
17:00 בדרך למכונית פנו אלינו אנשים שקיבלו מניעת כניסה לישראל מסיבה לא ידועה. נתנו להם את מספרי הטלפון של סילביה ואיחלנו הצלחה.

אין תור של מכוניות. דרך העפר עדיין חסומה בתלתלית תיל, אבל אולי הגדילו קצת את הרווח בין קוביות הבטון, באופן שיכולות לעבור מכוניות בשני הכיוונים בו זמנית. בעיה מתעוררת כשמגיעה משאית ומתקשה לתמרון בין קוביות הבטון. החריצים המוגזמים בכביש ממש מקפיצים את המכוניות (אפשר להבחין בהם בצילום אך לא בעומקם).
מתנחל ממבוא דותן עוצר לידינו ושואל אם אנחנו זקוקות לעזרה. גם כשאנחנו מסבירות לו מה מעשינו במקום הוא מאחל לנו, בכנות, כל טוב. כשאנחנו רוצות לעזוב נזעקות לעברנו שתי מכוניות צבאיות, כנראה מאלו שניצבות על הכביש בין הצומת למחסום. קצין מורה לנו בתקיפות לעצור ואומר לנהג המכונית השנייה לברר מי אנחנו. החייל מברר ואף הוא מאחל לנו יום נעים.
16:30 מחסום ברטעה-ריחן, הצד הפלסטיני
מגרשי החנייה בתחום המחסום ובסביבתו מלאים. אנחנו חונות בצד הכביש ומבחינות שעל חלון אחת המכוניות מדבקה גדולה ועליה כתוב בערבית ובעברית שהחנייה במקום אסורה.
המון, אבל ממש המון, אנשים חוזרים בשעה זו מעבודתם. בסככה הולכת ומתפתחת פינת תפילה עם כל האבזור הנדרש, תחומה במסגרות מתכת ונקבעה כבר דלת. דופן אחת מכוסה בדים והאחרות עדיין חשופות. על הרצפה פרושים שטיחים לתפילה. לשאלתנו עונים שמועצת ברטעה (המזרחית, כנראה) מקימה את ה”מסגד”. לידו ממשיך לפעול דוכן התה והחטיפים.
17:00 אנחנו עוזבות. בדרכנו למכונית פונים אלינו אנשים שהם, או קרובי משפחתם, מנועים מסיבות שונות או עלומות. אנחנו נותנות להם את הפתקים של סילביה ומאחלות הצלחה.

'Anin checkpoint (214)
'Anin checkpoint is located on the Separation Fence east of the Israeli community Mei Ami and close to the village of Anin in the West Bank. It is opened twice a week, morning and afternoon, on days with shorter light time, for Anin farmers whose olive groves have been separated from the village by the fence it became difficult to cultivate their land. Transit permits are only issued to those who can produce ownership documents for their caged-in land, and sometimes only to the head of the family or his widow, eldest son, and children. Sometimes the inheritors lose their right to tend to the family’s land. The permits are eked out and are re-issued only with difficulty. 55-year-old persons may cross the checkpoint (into Israel) without special permits. During the olive harvest season (about one month around October) the checkpoint is open daily and more transit permits are issued. Names of persons eligible to cross are held in the soldiers’ computers. In July 2007, a sweeping instruction was issued, stating that whoever does not return to the village through this checkpoint in the afternoon will be stripped of his transit permit when he shows up there next time. Since 2019, the checkpoint has not been allways locked with the seam-line zone gate (1 of 3 gates), and the fence around it has been broken in several sites.

This checkpoint is located on the Separation Fence route, east of the Palestinian town of East Barta’a. The latter is the largest Palestinian community inside the seam-line zone (Barta’a Enclave) in the northern West Bank. Western Barta’a, inside Israel, is adjacent to it. The Checkpoint is open all week from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Since mid-May 2007, the checkpoint has been managed by a civilian security company subordinate to the Ministry of Defense. People permitted to cross through this checkpoint into and from the West Bank are residents of Palestinian communities inside the Barta’a Enclave as well as West Bank Palestinian residents holding transit permit. Jewish settlers from Hermesh and Mevo Dotan cross here without inspection. A large, modern terminal is active here with 8 windows for document inspection and biometric tests (eyes and fingerprints). Usually only one or two of the 8 windows are in operation. Goods, up to medium commercial size, may pass here from the West Bank into the Barta’a Enclave. A permanent registered group of drives who have been approved by the may pass with farm produce. When the administration of the checkpoint was turned over to a civilian security firm, the Ya’abad-Mevo Dotan Junction became a permanent checkpoint. . It is manned by soldiers who sit in the watchtower and come down at random to inspect vehicles and passengers (February 2020).

This is a fabric of life* checkpoint through which pedestrians, cabs and private cars (since 2008) pass to and from the West Bank and the Seam-line Zone to and from the industrical zone near the settler-colony Shaked, schools and kindergartens, and Jenin university campuses. The checkpoint is located between Tura village inside the West Bank and the village of Dahar Al Malah inside the enclave of the Seam-line Zone. It is opened twice a day, between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m., and from 12 noon to 7 p.m. People crossing it (at times even kindergarten children) are inspected in a bungalow with a magnometer. Names of those allowed to cross it appear in a list held by the soldiers. Usually traffic here is scant.
- fabric of life roads and checkpoints, as defined by the Terminals Authority in the Ministry of Defense (fabric of life is a laundered name that does not actually describe any kind of humanitarian purpose) are intended for Palestinians only. These roads and checkpoints have been built on lands appropriated from their Palestinian owners, including tunnels, bypass roads, and tracks passing under bridges. Thus traffic can flow between the West Bank and its separated parts that are not in any kind of territorial contiguity with it. Mostly there are no permanent checkpoint on these roads but rather ‘flying’ checkpoints, check-posts or surprise barriers. At Toura, a small (less than one dunam) and sleepy checkpoint has been established, which has filled up with the years with nearly .every means of supervision and surveillance that the Israeli military occupation has produced. Ya’bed-Dotan
This checkpoint is located on road 585, at the crossroads of Mevo Dotan settler-colony / Jenin/ Ya’abad. It has an army watchtower (‘pillbox’ post) and concrete blocs that slow down vehicular traffic. It was erected when Barta’a Checkpoint, lying to the west on the Separation Fence, was privatized and its operation was passed over to civilian security personnel. Since December 2009 this checkpoint enables flow of Palestinian vehicular traffic towards the Barta’a Checkpoint. Seldom is it manned by soldiers sitting in the watchtower, who conduct random inspections of vehicles and passengers. (february 2020)
