At the exit from Nablus, a line of 2. Pedestrain checkpoint: At the entrance to Nablus, the booths are closed. The checkpoint commander explains that there was crowding at the exit and he sent all his men to reinforce the inspections at the exit. Later, the booths reopened. Efficient and nice. The turnstiles are not in operation, broken. An Israeli merchant complains that they don’t let him into Nablus (Later they do allow him). 17:15 I met a taxi driver from Qusin and he was pleased to tell me that, since yesterday afternoon, they have been allowed to enter Nablus with their taxis. He claims that this depends upon the checkpoint commander. Every time there is a change in shift, they must request once again that the commander let them through. 17:30 On the way to the car, I met taxi drivers who go from Beit Iba to Jenin (Sebastiya and the villages). They claim that they are not allowed through the checkpoint at Shave Shomron. When I suggested that they try to get a permit from the DCO, they say that the Israeli DCO sends them to the Palestinian one, which is closed.

A perimeter checkpoint west of the city of Nablus. Operated from 2001 to 2009 as one of the four permanent checkpoints closing on Nablus: Beit Furik and Awarta to the east and Hawara to the south. A pedestrian-only checkpoint, where MachsomWatch volunteers were present daily for several hours in the morning and afternoon to document the thousands of Palestinians waiting for hours in long queues with no shelter in the heat or rain, to leave the district city for anywhere else in the West Bank. From March 2009, as part of the easing of the Palestinian movement in the West Bank, it was abolished, without a trace, and without any adverse change in the security situation.
