Beit Iba, Wed 4.2.09, Morning
7:15 Long line of cars and trucks. We count more than 10,
but it is hard to see. No detainees, not a lot of people.
Ahmed, the new DCO rep, comes over to greet us. He
asks for a list of phone numbers of those going on the shifts. We politely
refuse his request, but Navah gives him the numbers of those responsible for
the Nablus checkpoints.
7:25 A line of about 6 men waiting to go through the metal
detector at the exit from Nablus.
7:35 A line of 8 men and youths.
7:40 Someone who looks like the checkpoint commander makes
sure that we only stand in the corner designated to us. He warned me 3 times.
He says that they opened the checkpoint at 5 AM.
8:00 Two lanes for vehicles leaving Nablus are open, but
there is still a long line. I count 15 cars. Some of the cars pass through
without any inspection.

See all reports for this place-
A perimeter checkpoint west of the city of Nablus. Operated from 2001 to 2009 as one of the four permanent checkpoints closing on Nablus: Beit Furik and Awarta to the east and Hawara to the south. A pedestrian-only checkpoint, where MachsomWatch volunteers were present daily for several hours in the morning and afternoon to document the thousands of Palestinians waiting for hours in long queues with no shelter in the heat or rain, to leave the district city for anywhere else in the West Bank. From March 2009, as part of the easing of the Palestinian movement in the West Bank, it was abolished, without a trace, and without any adverse change in the security situation.Neta EfroniJun-4-2014Beit-Iba checkpoint 22.04.04
