Bethlehem CP, El Nashnash, Ezyon, Wednesday 17.1.07Observers: Rahel R, Ora A (reporting)6:40- Bethlehem CPPeople passed quickly, the greeted us with a smile on their faces. Some of them said “thank you” to us. They probably thanked us for the fact that the passage had opened on time and that everything was quick and easy. “Today everything is fine”, one of them said to us, “but on Sunday you weren’t here and we got out of the passage only at 9:00! Come every morning!” 7:15- El Nashnash The place was drity. Most of the stands were empty. Some cabs and transits were waiting for passengers. The drivers looked desperate. Two people who were refused passage by the secret service came to us. We referred them to Silvia. 8:00 Ezyon DCL About 20 people were waiting out side of the shed. They hadn’t opened the gates and the numbers hadn’t been distributed. It was cold out side. It was also cold inside the dirty shed, there is not warming facilities there. The toilets by the shed still reeked. On the week before the promised to clean them and to fix the broken sink, we tried to talk to the person that promised that to us, but he wouldn’t answer the phone. We tried to find out when the gates would open. They promised that it would happen in “10 minutes”. In the mean while we saw a notice in Arabic, saying that they won’t be distributing magnetic cards on that day. We made a phone call and found that “there was a problem with the electricity and there are no magnetic cards”. They couldn’t say when the problem would be fixed. Everyone there knew there wasn’t a chance it would happen on that day, but they stayed there anyway. A young man that spoke English told us he was supposed to take a flight to Aman, he show us the dates on his tickets and an summon from the police for the 21st. we called Maher, the police representative at the place, who was, to our great surprise, there. He answered the phone and agreed, although with much reluctance, to let the young man in.
