Bethlehem, El Nashash, EzyonSunday, August 13 AMObservers: Sylvia P, Ofra B, Chana A (reporting)7:00 Bethlehem CP: As there is a complete closure, there is little to report. One window is open catering for the very few, sick, church visitors, and family unification people, who can pass even during closure.7:30 El Nashash: Although there are many taxis, there aren’t many people. Many taxis just stand and wait for customers to take back to the cities of the south. 8:30-10:30 Ezyon DCL: Lots of people, many “customers”. The unusual thing this morning is that general disorder reigns in the waiting shed. This is caused, as far as we can see, by the breakdown of the electronic numbering machine which is there to show when one’s turn has come and also by the terribly slow way people’s cases are being processed. The computers are down, as usual, and only 5-7 people have been dealt in the first hour and a half. This creates uncertainty and nervousness when nothing happens and people stand in line in the burning sun (from the exit of the shed to the turnstile is where the sun beats down mercilessly). Thus, when we call to protest the lack of attention to these matters, including the usual silence of the fans, which are only turned on when we call in about this. Within minutes a fight develops among those waiting in line. Officers from the headquarters come out (they must have been ready before) fully armed, guns ready and order everyone out of the shed and start the lining up process anew, this time outside. Every number is called up and ordered to go inside. This “campaign” is led by A.F. an important general. When Sylvia and I try to call attention to what was actually going on before, we are threatened by the general: he will have us arrested by the police!Needless to say that we have many petitioners and have to tear ourselves away.
