Ezyon DCL
DCL Ezyon, Monday 7.5.07Observers: Elka B-G, Mika G, Yael B (reporting) 12:10The tunnel checkpointin the southern direction wasn’t manned. There were inspections on the northern direction. There weren’t many cars because of the hour. To the right and the left of the road the building of the walls is in progress, and so is the damage to the view. 12:30The Ezyon DCL has gone through changes but the purpose isn’t clear- there was a line of concrete bricks colored in white and blue.About 7 people were waiting for the secret services and several other people were waiting for the police. All and all there were about 20 people in the blistering heat. Someone wanted to know whether he was still security denied. Someone else was released on bail after driving too many people in his car, he was summoned to court. He didn’t speak Hebrew and couldn’t understand what all the papers that he was holding mean. He had already been to Ras El Amud, but he was told to come to the DCL. After several attempts to call Maher, we found out he wasn’t there but in Jerusalem. He told us to come and see him on the next day. We explained to the people who were waiting that there was no point in waiting for the police, but not everyone was persuaded to leave. A man needed a permit for his aunt who had to go to Tel Ha’shomer hospital, her son fell of scaffoldings at Modiin and was hospitalized there. He wanted to escort her because she couldn’t go there on her own. His permit had already expired and his aunt didn’t have all the papers. He had already been declined that morning; we tried mediating between him and the lieutenant at the gate. It’s worth mentioning that most of the people there spoke only Arabic, and the lieutenant, who was polite, spoke only Hebrew. This causes a difficult communication problem- it’s hard as it is to understand what are the required documents or permits, but without a mutual language it’s impossible. There was a man waiting for a magnetic card, but they won’t hand them out until the construction work is finished. Another person tried receiving a permit for his son, who had to be at El Mokads hospital. A man from Neuman (Mazmoria) was there, it’s a village of 200 people inside the Israeli territory, but the wall is about to detach them and they will remain without a defined status. They had filed a suit at the high courts with the help of Lea Tzemel (a lawyer) and the hearing is to be held on the 13th this month, this man came therefore, to ask for a permit to attend to this matter. We tried getting to Neuman but we got lost and only managed to see that they were paving a new road between Tkoa and Nokdim. The only use of our being there was that we gave a ride to one of the desperate people who was stuck there.
