Hamra, Tiyasir, Thursday 29/06/06 am Observing and reporting: Annina K., Revital S., Yehudith H.07:40 HamraThere are only a few cars, most coming from the direction of Tubas. The passage is quick and without delays. The CP commander comes up to us and greets us, another soldier comes up to us and offers us water. Later another soldier joins us. They are very different from the soldiers that we have known till now. They are interested in talking to us, want to tell us things. One soldier stays at the CP and lets all those coming from every direction go through quickly and efficiently. There are also some who do not get out of the cars and go on their way as if there is no CP. Is this really happening?According to the soldiers, most of those going through are workers who get to the CP between 04:00 and 06:00, and there have never been any problems with them. The others go through with no difficulty. Has something changed? The whole situation seems very strange to us. We did not want to ask unnecessary questions in order not to cause anything to change. A truck is detained at the side; the driver is an Israeli Arab who is waiting for a telephone call that will confirm that he is allowed to enter Tubas.08:45 TiyasirWhen we get out of the car, an ambulance that belongs to the “Health Work Committees” stops beside us, and the driver tells us that on Sunday this week, he was forced to wait for three hours until they allowed him through. Their center is in Ramallah and they have been working for three years. He is going from Tubas to Bardeleh. He has a number that does not appear on the list that the soldiers have, and they make trouble for him every time. After a short time, a military jeep passed by chance and stopped near us. Inside it was the brigade commander, Nachshon, who is reponsible for the Tulkarm district. He gave us the telephone number of the operations commander of the brigade that is in the district now, so that we can take care of the matter. There was no response to our call, so we could do nothing after all. The soldiers at the CP do not pay any attention to us, even when we go to stand near the gate of the base. There are very few people going through, mostly taxis. The passengers get out and stand in line. They are inspected quickly and go on their way. One of them says to us: “If you are not here, we do not go through this way (so quickly) ….” Some of the passengers just show their ID cards through the window and are allowed to pass. It is not clear to us if the rules are less strict, or if they have understood that there is no need for this CP?We left at 09:30 when there was no traffic at the CP.[translation: Devorah K.]
