Hawwara & Tapuach
Hawwara, Tapuach, Wednesday 3/8/2005 PMObservers: Niza G., Dalia P., Dvoraka A., (taking notes)15.00-17.15A calm shift, without the pain and pressure we felt in the preceding weeks. The soldiers were polite, almost relaxed. The queues were not crowded – neither for people nor for cars. There were no detainees.15.00- At the Tapuach junction about 20 cars southwards bound, they passed after waiting a few minutes only and were checked at random and superficially. At the checkpoint on road No. 5 eastwards only two cars. No other checkpoints on the way.15.30- At Hawarra. When we arrived about 150 Palestinians were waiting at the turnstiles. One woman with a baby said that she had been waiting for an hour. However, the queue quickly became sparse and some women said that they had to wait for 15 minutes only. When we left there were about 50 people who passed after being submitted to superficial checks and no detentions. The car queue was sparse and there were almost no detentions. A. the captain from the Liaison Administration was there till the end of his shift (16.00), answered questions and gave clarifications, which speed up the checking. When we expressed our amazement about the quick and flowing procedure, he and I. the commander of the checkpoint, said that there were no alerts and no instructions to detain, so that the passage in all the directions was easier.17.15- At the Tapuach junction 2-3 cars southbound.
