Hawwra, Beit Furik
Hawwara – Beit Furiq, 4.5.05, AMWatchers: Tushka K., Ilana H., Nina S. (reporting)No road blocks on the way. We drove there through Jit and back through Tapuach. Hawwara functions quietly, all can go through including young man without Tasrich.Entrance to Nablus is only east of the checkpoint, between the detainees enclosure and the cubicle for checking women – a hurdle path.Beit Furiq all is calm too, opens at 6 am and closes at 7.30 pmWe arrived at Hawwara at 8.10 due to a late start off because of a misunderstanding. There is a steady and big flow of passers in direction of Nablus. They are all made to pass east of the checkpoint where there are 2 metal protrusions sticking out of the floor followed by a deep step and then a dirt path round the electricity pole and up to the cabs in a dusty passage. We have spoken to the DCO captain A. who promised to forward our request/suggestion to pave this path so it will not be so dangerous. He will try, meantime, to remove the metal bits that stick out of the pavement and endanger the passers by.8.30 – 9.15 we were in Beit Furiq. The soldiers are pleasant and polite to the passers by. No queues, all are passing. We spoke with the cab drivers who reported that the old man from Beit Dajan, who was wounded a week ago, has been released from hospital and they have no idea what is happening with his complaint. I have given the details to Dina from Yesh Din and expect there is a follow up. A driver with a cab had a problem getting his cab to be repaired in Nablus and we were told by the DCO’s office that he must go to Nablus DCL and get from them a Tasrich for the car, which we explained to him. We were not successful in getting any other information. We returned to Hawwara where there was a detainee who arrived without ID’s and had a big knife in his belongings. We saw the knife! He was kept for the Shabac to decide what to do and was not released by the time we left about 11 am. He could only speak Arabic and kept apparently changing the reasons for having the knife with him.
