And this is what we saw:
They tell us in the Wadi Nasra neighborhood near the Worshippers Route that before we arrived a jeep from the Civil Administration came accompanied by settlers who looked at and measured the abandoned area below. The owner of the land is in Amman, and we don’t know what will become of it… Perhaps it’s a continuation of the saga of Beit Hameriva and Beit Hamachpela…
The rock in the photo was thrown by settlers last Saturday, the graffiti in the photo [“Muhammad’s a pig”] was added recently and everyone coming to the monument for Dror Weinberg aims his gun at the Palestinian youths. A soldier stops a Palestinian minivan to determine whether he has permission to be there.
Border Police soldier arrive to question youths at a house near the Curve 160 checkpoint – they don’t arrest them and ask me, innocently, do you think we shouldn’t speak to them?
On Shuhada Street – new graffiti on the door of one of the closed shops and a new sign at the stairs up to the Cordova School.
After the Tarpat Checkpoint/Hasam HaShoter was burned (and closed) because a Molotov cocktail was thrown at it they’re erecting a new checkpoint – God forbid they should eliminate it. The new checkpoint will be ready in two weeks. Meanwhile there’s a route via Tel Rumeida a little higher up. The renovated checkpoint will have revolving gates and we’ve already heard complaints about that. It will be similar to the renovated Pharmacy checkpoint and the Curve 160 checkpoint.

According to Wye Plantation Accords (1997), Hebron is divided in two: H1 is under Palestinian Authority control, H2 is under Israeli control. In Hebron there are 170,000 Palestinian citizens, 60,000 of them in H2. Between the two areas are permanent checkpoints, manned at all hours, preventing Palestinian movement between them and controlling passage of permit holders such as teachers and schoolchildren. Some 800 Jews live in Avraham Avinu Quarter and Tel Rumeida, on Givat HaAvot and in the wholesale market.
