Hebron
We left for Hebron with heavy hearts. A shift after “The life of Sarah” and the days of “exception” at the Cave of the Patriarchs.
The pictures sent by our Palestinian friends in Hebron provoke anger and anger and I am quite frightened of what I will see there.
There is a temporary checkpoint at the exit from Samoa,. the same as at the exit out of Dahariya. And on our way policemen were stationed at the entrance to Hebron under the settlement of Beit Haggai. There are those who take care all the time that the Palestinians know who is in charge here.
In the picture below: The first rain and the Palestinians rush to finish the harvest. At Tel Rumeida, they are constantly being disturbed by the settlers.
All of Hebron is “decorated” with blue and white flags and the concrete blocks are painted blue and white with a Star of David. This is what they painted on the Hadafa grocery store at the junction of the Worshipers’ route.
In the picture below: the checkpoint located next to the archeological park at Tel Rumeida.
The Abu Haykal family, whose house is adjacent to the garden, reported a shattered window and we came to see it.
We were delayed for about twenty minutes by the exit from Tel Rumeida. We were lucky, not Palestinians.
The dirt can be seen everywhere.
And the heart is heavy, heavy and grieved

According to Wye Plantation Accords (1997), Hebron is divided in two: H1 is under Palestinian Authority control, H2 is under Israeli control. In Hebron there are 170,000 Palestinian citizens, 60,000 of them in H2. Between the two areas are permanent checkpoints, manned at all hours, preventing Palestinian movement between them and controlling passage of permit holders such as teachers and schoolchildren. Some 800 Jews live in Avraham Avinu Quarter and Tel Rumeida, on Givat HaAvot and in the wholesale market.
Checkpoints observed in H2:
- Bet Hameriva CP- manned with a pillbox
- Kapisha quarter CP (the northern side of Zion axis) - manned with a pillbox
- The 160 turn CP (the southern side of Zion axis) - manned with a pillbox
- Avraham Avinu quarter - watch station
- The pharmacy CP - checking inside a caravan with a magnometer
- Tarpat (1929) CP - checking inside a caravan with a magnometer
- Tel Rumeida CP - guarding station
- Beit Hadassah CP - guarding station
