Anata, Ar-Ram Qalandiya, Sunday 9.10.2005, PMWatchers: Phyllis W. Tamar P.Anata Many soldiers and little passers-by.Ar-Ram The commander Achiasaf told us that the detainees were no longer brought to a central place where their details were noted but that they are simply sent back to the territories, either through the nearest checkpoint or through others. That is why we have not seen detainees here lately.Qalandiya People who met us at the southern checkpoint told us that at 12.30 a Palestinian parked his car on an asphalt road west of the roundabout. A hammer driven by a woman soldier with light hair stopped next to him and three soldiers got out and started to let out the air from his tires. When he complained to him that he had not been making problems for anyone they attacked him with their rifles and damaged his shoulder and only when he was lying helpless on the ground and his friends started running up they drove off. The bystanders knew one of the soldiers, his name is Adam. We also have the details of the man who was beaten. The soldiers at the checkpoint and Dannie had no knowledge of this event and Dannie promised that he would tell his superiors about this. The behavior at the checkpoint was exceptionally polite and especially that of a young woman volunteer of about 25 who had an immense influence on this.We met S, who told us how the soldiers had attacked him when he bent over to pick up some coins, mentioned in Hannah B’s report and showed us his torn jacket. Towards sunset the checkpoint emptied and we went home.
