Irtah, Jubara, Sunday AM, March 26, 2006 Watchers: Yehudit H., Lea Sh., Yael A. (reporting)6:45 – Irtah checkpoint: “Closure” [geographic restriction of passage, regardless of permits] in effect – the checkpoint is completely deserted.6:55 – Jubarah checkpoint: On our arrival, a policeman (blue = Israeli civil police) waved us over to stop the vehicle, then asked us if we came “to disturb the soldiers again.” He asked for my ID card and the car’s registration form and insurance certificate. After scrutinizing the car’s papers, I got them back. The policeman started to walk away with my ID card. I insisted that he give it back, which he did.The policeman walked away for a short while and came back with some forms. He asked for my ID card again claiming that he had to register all those who pass there (we were stopped near the southern gate, at the entrance to Jubara village.) I refused to give it to him. At this stage, the three of us were arguing, and we insisted that he had no reason to register us since we had not committed any crime. Again he claimed that he had to register all those who pass there and we explained again that we were not going anywhere; we were staying near the checkpoint. Finally, he got into his vehicle and drove away. While we were arguing, a big truck passed from west to east. He didn’t stop it at all.Comment: Is it possible that somebody instructed the police to report on the movements of MachsomWatch? (We of course had a MachsomWatch sticker on the vehicle). We drove in the village up to the Schoolchildren’s Gate checkpoint and watched the smooth passage of two buses with children. We stayed for a while to watch the passage of people and vehicles on the northern side of the checkpoint and got the impression that there were no special problems.8:00We left.
