Irtah, Jubara, Anabta, Monday, 26.9.2005, AM.Observers: Edna M. Ronnie S. Naomi L. Herzliya A. (reporting) Guest: Michal Irtah 6.50. The place is closed and in the road are giant trucks carrying enormous cement buildings. One of them lets us through and we go to the old checkpoint. There are many cars but not a single soldier and we go on to Jubara.JubaraTwo workers tell us that at the northern checkpoint (Tulkarm) people are not allowed to pass but they were. We go there. At first the soldiers let no one through but then they get an order to do so. One person is not allowed to pass because his permit is only valid for gate 919 to the south. No DCO representative there and the soldiers say it has been a while that this has been so. A phone call to the office does not help. The new road at the bottom has no checkpoints. Anabta . 8.00 The taxi drivers tell us that there are many people at the inside checkpoint, about half a kilometer from the village and no one is allowed to pass. Edna and Roni got here by taxi and we stay and listen to the troubles of the drivers there. About half an hour later a hammer arrives from the direction of Anabta and opens the checkpoint. Two trucks pass and one has to wait as its number does not appear on the list. Meantime those arriving tell us that the pipes were bought from a factory in Israel, evidently Ashdod, and are intended for development work of the Authority on one of the roads in the area. About 9.00 we send a taxi to pick up Edna and Roni at the internal checkpoint and they tell us that there are about 100 Palestinians many of them young students. There is a closure on Tulkarm and on resident of the city can pass. After we make a request the soldiers agree to check the ids if they form two lines. But still the people of the city and the surroundings can not pass. Only the sick and those of other areas. An old man does not feel well…he has just had a heart operation. The soldiers give him water and he gets to the checkpoint with Roni and Edna who organize a lift for him to Beit Iba (our car is full). One of the workers of the Authority takes him, a Jerusalemite.
