Wadi Nar (Container), Abu dis Tuesday AM, 4.10.05 (Rosh Hashana and the beginning of the Ramadan).Observers: Ora k., Michaela R. (reporting). An uneventful shift.Wadi Nar (Container)When we arrived, the CP was totally quiet and the soldiers/BP-men were busy cleaning. Shortly after, a huge wave of vehicles from Bethlehem swept in. Most of them went through without being checked. Afterwards the amount of traffic was natural for this time of day. Checking was superficial and swift. What does that mean? Was there a flying CP holding up traffic somewhere we couldn’t reach or see and at a certain point it was removed? Were the soldiers aware of this and therefore did not check the first vehicles arriving in this wave? There were no detainees. At Al-Ezariya there was no CP. If the residents of Ma’ale Adumim are in no hurry to leave their settlement towards Jerusalem in the morning of a weekday, one can save manpower and not post a jeep that would slow down and delay the Palestinian vehicles there. Have we mentioned CPs and security?Abu DisA jeep stands next to the former “Pishpash”. A BP-man is engrossed in prayer, another randomly checks passersby. The rest sit inside the jeep. In the monastery garden, two soldiers wait under the trees to capture those who are less athletic and do not climb the wall.At the lower gate – Soldiers check papers. At the hotel – A jeep is parked near the entrance. We saw no detainees in the yard. The building was quiet.
