Ar-Ram, QalandiyaWednesday, 10/11/04 Morning Anat T, Miya B, Rahel M, (reporting)6:50 a.m. – 8:50 a.m.Ar-RamThere are ten detainees standing near the CP who were waiting about 40 minutes when we arrive. This group of men had gone to Al Aksa the evening before, and were stopped when they tried to return to their villages north of Jerusalem. Their IDs were being investigated. People pass through quickly even though each name is recorded. Five cars in lineQalandiya 7:35 a.m.Our transit stops about 100 meters before the round about because two guards, dressed in black, with guns stop traffic. The cement bases are laid and workers are getting ready to continue the wall closer to the intersection. Pedestrians enter without problem. Now there is no crowding of vehicles because traffic comes almost entirely from the east. There are 12 cars waiting to travel north, and four impounded vehicles in the parking area for them. When a soldier is asked what group he is from, he refused to answer because he says the Machsom Women on the afternoon before, Tuesday, 9/11, were so unpleasant that he will not speak to any MW. A pocket knife is found on a youth going through towards Ar-Ram. All his finger tips are rubbed with some material attached to the end of a 20 centimeter stick and then told to sit to the side. After a few minutes he stands and moves three meters away from some barking dogs. Three soldiers tell him to sit, one soldier pushes the Palestinian backwards, speaking harshly. Then it is a wild situation. The Palestinian is resisting the soldier, the soldier is forcing him to retreat, and we are saying “don’t be physical” to the soldier. The soldier tells us sharply not to interfere in his work. After probably a minute it is all over, and the Palestinian does sit where he is told. He was not hit. Amiel, DCO representative, makes a point of greeting us with a big smile. 8:30 there are fifteen vehicles crowding to get in line to go north.8:40 Back to Ar-RamThe ten detainees’ names and their attempt to pass without a permit was recorded, given their IDs and then sent to their homes.
