Jubara

Oct-28-2003
| Morning

07.40: The school gate between
Jubara and Ar-Ras was locked. All the children had already passed.
As soon as we approached, the gate was opened and all the villagers
were let through. One woman, crying, said neither she nor her
husband had a permit. They were let in with their donkey
nevertheless. 2 men from Jubara wanted to get through to the other
side to look after their green houses (with cucumbers) but were
refused, since they refused to accept their
permits.

08.00: 4 men have been detained since 2am. One was a taxi
driver and his car keys and his car were held. One of the
passengers wanted to get to Tulkarm where he works for one of the
ministries. Another had to get to the Allenby Bridge where his sick
mother was waiting for him to take her over to Jordan. After DCO
intervention all 4 men got their IDs back, but the car keys and the
car itself would be returned after a week only. In the mean time a
long queue accumulated on the South Eastern side of the checkpoint
and including 3 women with babies on their arms. The soldier told
them that they may cross, but they wouldn’t be let back without
permits. At the village grocery we were told that yesterday the Red
Cross provided the flour and lentils. They are short of baby food
like Materna.
