Jubara, Thursday, 21.7.05, AMObservers: Nura R., Ella M., Inbal R. (reporting)Jubara08:00 – Israeli citizens are not permitted to enter Tulkarm. Only Palestinians are allowed in and out. A large amount of resentmentdevelops. Three elderly women, one of whose sister has passed away, await a special permit. A lone child, aged about nine, tries consistently to sneak and leave Tulkarm. The instructions are that children unaccompanied by parents do not go through. The soldier is exasperated and threatens to tie him to the CP post with a rope. There is a lot of pressure on the soldiers. The line from Tulkarm consists of 14 vehicles (according to the IDF observation – we were unable to count them). Average waiting time for a vehicle wishing to exit Tulkarm was approximately 20 minutes. In the other directions traffic flows and there are no jams. The commander of the checkpoint maintains that we are not permitted to enter Jubara. Even so, we sneak away from the parking lot and go into the village in our car. Everything seems quiet there but we cannot find a Hebrew or an English speaking person to talk to. 11:30 – Burning piles of garbage cause heavy smoke. About 20 cars waiting to enter Tulkarm.Anbata 9:15 – From the car it looks like there is no traffic at the checkpoint.
