Jubara
Jubara, Monday, 22.8.05, AMObservers: Rachel A., Rukhama Sh., Lea A., Ella, Edna M. (reporting)Guest: Irit (Ph.D student, writes thesis of Machsom Watch in Boston)06:40 – We split into three in order to watch the procedures at the three checking points. The line of vehicles at the exit from Tulkarm is endless, and only one soldier inspects, while another covers. The commander, a second lieutenant, is very strict, and hostile. He does not let Hataf deliver to us packages with hand-broidery that we take into Israel. We try and call the brigade, the spokesman, but there is no answer. The DCO representative, K., arrives around 8 o’clock but is helpless. The closure is total. Still we succeed to persuade the female soldiers in some instances to let pass someone to Israel. A child, who was with his grandmother in Tulkarm, is allowed to return to his mother, who lives in the village of Zemer in Israel (near Bat-Khefer). Their niece is allowed to return to Tulkarm. From next week the crossing over will be done through a tunnel, where we will not be able to observe. Some of us proceeded to Anabta and witnessed the complete closure of the junction. The others remained at the CP and met with people of Jubara. We entered the village and were received, as usual, warmly. We left at 10:00 o’clock.
