Jubara
Jubara, Wednesday, 7.9.05, AM: Natalia A., Hagar L. Michalina D., Inbal R. (reporting)Irtah7:00 AM. Drivers waiting for the worker who pass into Israel say the two days ago the old checkpoint was opened for passage on foot. Today is the first day of the reopening of the new terminal. According to the drivers the checkpoint opens at 6:00 AM, according to the soldier at the post it opens at 4:30 AM. There are not many workers passing through. We counted six workers in five minutes. The soldier says that is the going rate. Natalia, who spoke to a Palestinian about the issue, says the reason there are not many workers is because the permits were changes and most people don’t have the new permit yet. The merchandise checkpoint is supposed to open between 7:30 and 8:00 AM.Jubara7:25 AM. Merchandise passes through the checkpoint, as do cars and people, in the direction of Jubara. There are no illegal aliens in the shack and no Israeli citizens who want to go into Tulkarm. In the middle barrier on the Israel side of the checkpoint, there is a volunteer who will not let us approach the vehicle checkpoint in the direction of Tulkarm. He threatens us with his weapon and will not call the checkpoint commander so we can make our right to stand there clear. After harsh words between us the commander arrives and calms down the volunteer. We approach the Tulkarm checkpoint and it looks quite. Hagar looks over to the tunnel road, that is supposed to ease the pressure, and see an army vehicle (Hummer) blocking the road’ and a long line of cars waiting. The army vehicle leave after it sees Hagar and traffic flows.AnabtaThere are two ambulances, on both side of the checkpoint, which coordinated their times to pass patients “back to back”, to and from Tulkarm. Otherwise, traffic is usual. As we know, there is a permanent barrier on the road for cars and army patrols visit it from time to time.
