Jubara, A-ras, Anabta
Jubara, A-ras, Anabta. Wednesday PM, 6.9.2006Observers: Elisheva E, Sarah F, Tammie CNatanya translating. Jubara. 14.10 When we got to the gates of Jubara the soldierswelcomed us but we heard the volunteer of the envelope claiming thatwe could not go to the village. The soldier standing next to him saidwe could. To all those coming to Jubara …you have the right to enter. 14.25 A-Ras through the children’s gate. Little movement. Some minutes after we arrived the shift changed. The traffic from Qalqiliya to Tulkarm flows. Those coming from Tulkarm wait about 15 minutes. Two taxis wait. When the passengers lost their patience they alightedand went up to the soldiers demanding to be checked. The soldiers said”OK. We will check you. We will check you very well.” And then saidthat the Palestinians’ behavior was the result of our being present.Waiting 15 minutes in that heat and dust is hellish. But because ofthe soldiers’ words we left. 15.00 When we got into the car Zachariah phoned and said that at BeitIba there were many problems and therefore we changed our plans thatwent straight there. He asked us to take 3 kilogram of baklava toTeiba but we refused. 15.3 Beit Iba see separate report. Anabta. With all the dust and the heat and the disgraceful events atBeit Iba we felt that Anabta was like a recreation home. The soldierswere easy and received us with smiles, the traffic was flowingwith no problems to and from Tulkarm and the taxis and thepedestrians. We felt we were on a different planet.

A perimeter checkpoint west of the city of Nablus. Operated from 2001 to 2009 as one of the four permanent checkpoints closing on Nablus: Beit Furik and Awarta to the east and Hawara to the south. A pedestrian-only checkpoint, where MachsomWatch volunteers were present daily for several hours in the morning and afternoon to document the thousands of Palestinians waiting for hours in long queues with no shelter in the heat or rain, to leave the district city for anywhere else in the West Bank. From March 2009, as part of the easing of the Palestinian movement in the West Bank, it was abolished, without a trace, and without any adverse change in the security situation.
