JUBARA, IRTAH, Thursday 28 April 2005 PM Observers: Nurit R., Ruthi B., Rinah D. (reporting) colour=red>Jubara – 14:15A closure had been declared until the end of the Jewish festival of Passover [i.e. no Palestinians were allowed into Israel in this week-long holiday]. A new path has been laid (but not paved) along the security fence – it is supposed to lead from Tulkarm to Qalqiliya. In parallel with this, a tunnel is being excavated under the road that leads to Nablus; this is supposed to enable traffic to move without hindrance from Tulkarm to Qalqiliya. The crossing points will deal only with traffic to Jubara and into Israel. There was only very sparse vehicular traffic and no pedestrians at all at the checkpoint. There were no detainees. Irtah — 14:50 It was very quiet. According to the soldiers, the closure had not stopped the “back-to-back” movement of goods into and out of the territories, but it had certainly cut it down. The new pedestrian “terminal” is due to open in about three weeks. Since there was nothing happening that needed our attention, we left at 15:15.
