Military Court- Petach Tiqwa—mar. 22, 06Observing and reporting: Rahela M.The hearing started late and I could not stay to observe it all of them. There were 21 prisoners and I had time to observe only 6 hearings. I shall start with the 6th one: The prisoner was Saad Basem Yasin (Abu Omar) head of the legal office of the legal club Sajin in Nablus. The crime: membership in the Hamas. He was represented by his collegue Abed. The prisoner had been indention for 20 days. He was interrogated only once during this time and there was a request for extension of his detention. The lawyer Abed inquired about how many times he was interrogated with a series of specific questions and was answered each time that there was a secret report that could not be exposed. It turns out that this prisoner was falsely accused by another Abu Tzalah (another client of the lawyer Abed). Abu Tzalah was mistakenly informed that this prisoner had been killed. He gave his name under duress when his and his family’s life was threatened during an interrogation. He contacted the head of investigation in order to retract this accusation despite the fact that he knew he would be arrested again for doing so.The fact is that there is no evidence against the accused and no new witnesses. The lawyer Abed demanded the release of this prisoner as there is no evidence against him and the detention is damaging to his client. T his prisoner is a distinguished member of the community who works in the field of law and his work is widely recognized. There are many who would testify that he will appear in court if released on bail. This detention is physically and mentally harmful to a man who many people depend on.The Judge, Regev extended his detention for 15 more days (instead of 20.The other prisoners: Bahan Hebron and Yasin Abu Lefah
