Jubara Wednesday, February 11th 2004 Afternoon shift. Watchers: Dina G. Tamara R., Raya Y., Ruthie B. We reached the school gate at 1300. The children had already passed. We drove back to the checkpoint. At first we thought everything was running smoothly, but soon found out that there were problems (as usual). A driver who had crossed the checkpoint in the morning from Jericho was not allowed to drive back; all our efforts were in vain, he had to return to Tulkarem Checkpoint and wait there in line for hours. An Israeli number plate – a guy from Jerusalem coming from the direction of Tulkarem= was refused to go back although he claimed his wife was about to give birth. We did manage to help him out and after being checked thoroughly he could pursue his route. An exhaustive case that was solved through Dina’s persistence: A woman with a Jordanian passport claimed to be a resident of Jubara left that morning for Tulkarem because of an ear infection. She is refused entrance to Jubara. Dina felt she was telling the truth, insisted and after valiant efforts managed to get her through. The conclusion is that it is worth insisting, even in cases that seem hopeless.Only a few of the soldiers were reluctant to help and showed hostility towards the population and towards us.
