Qalandiya
A long line of waiting pedestrians, and
a very long line of cars, apparently waiting over 45 minutes to
pass. There were two detainees. Children were also required to show
documentation, on and off. The border policemen were unable to
handle the growing pedestrian traffic, and some pedestrians were
passing unchecked on the opposite sidewalk. Qalandya south, 0710.
Dozens of people waiting, unwilling to cross because of the total
closure that would prevent them from returning south, but hoping
the order would change over the next few hours. Qalandya north,
0715. Total closure. Barbed wire blocking the entrance to the
cement maze that normally leads Palestinians up to the soldiers.
About 700 people or more gathered in a tight crowd. While they were
waiting, a fight began among some Palestinian youth, with others
climbing on the cement block and cheering the battle on.
