Rihan, Saturday, March 4, 2006, AMObservers: Danya C, Noah L (reporting)08:30 – 10:30We arrived at the entrance to the terminal through the fenced-in ‘sleeve’ for pedestrians, and stood at the opening.Across the road, at the opening to the checkpoint, some 25 people were waiting to enter Israel. They were called in by fives, and vanished into the black box. At the exit, where we stood, people appeared after waiting, according to them, an hour and a half in all. They said that there were at least 50 people in the line inside the terminal. It is not clear where the bottleneck is: perhaps at the only manned checking station for documents. We counted 45 minutes, and then 25 minutes transit time through the terminal. Afterwards the number of comers declined and transit was almost immediate. In the other direction, few people. We did not see detainees. The few cars that came were checked without delay. We did not approach the soldiers, who for the most part were behaving quietly and with friendliness, but they did show an interest in what we were doing. This is a new company, so they say, and they had not heard of us. The District Coordination Office representative on the spot did approach. It seems to us preferable to return to afternoon shifts, for then the place is busier, mostly with families.
