Rihan
Rihan, Monday, April 10, 2006, PMObservers: Dvora, Nava (reporting)15:20There is closure. There are hardly any people wishing to pass through the checkpoint. Occasionally a car or two would go by.Four men, whose passage permits are for the Kapeen gate only, came over to try and go through Rihan, since the Kapeen gate was closed. We tried looking into that matter with the Tul Karem District Coordination Office, and were told that up until now, the Red Cross made sure that 400 farmers could go in, with permission. Recently that number was reduced to 220. There are people with passage permits, but for some unknown reason their names do not appear on the lists of the Red Cross and the DCO, and due to a decision of the brigade commander, they are unable to cultivate their lands in the seam line zone.At this time, the passage permits for the 220 farmers, who were allowed to work, were also canceled. In fact, the Kapeen gate will remain closed until the olive picking season, at the end of next winter, and therefore all valid permits are useless. At any rate, they are banned from crossing at Rihan. At 16:45, since there was nothing for us to do at the checkpoint, we left.
