Rihan, Shaked
Rihan, Shaked, Sunday, February 19, 2006, AMObservers: Sandra R., Leah R. and Hannah H. (reporting) 07.10-09.15 Rihan, 07.10For the most part, farmers are going through to the seam zone. The terminal is open. We were told that it opened at 05.00. There are no detainees. Vehicle traffic from the Palestinian side is very sparse. Passengers in vehicles going in both directions get out of the cars and go through the terminal. Shaked, 07.45The gate is open and the pupils all went through at about 07.30. Two people with permits for the Rihan CP who want to go through, are not allowed to pass. Farmers with donkey carts are going through in both directions. They complain about the afternoon opening hours. If they finish working after 14.30, the gate is closed and they have to go all the way to Rihan. The problem of the mud has not yet been solved. It seems to have been decided that the only solution is — summer. Rihan, 08.15The people who are going through say that they have heard that the CPs to Israel (Tulkarm and Taibeh) are closed and all the workers were turned back. The Kafin CP is also closed today, and a person who came here from there in the hope of passing at Rihan was forced to go back. We were told that Kafin will be open tomorrow between 07.00 and 07.30.At this moment, more people are going through the CP in both directions, among them teachers and pupils going to the seam zone. The parking lot on the West Bank side is also now getting busier and the transportation of agricultural produce is beginning. The loaded vehicles begin to pass in the direction of Barta’a at 09.00.
