Rihan, Shaked, Thursday, April 6, 2006, AMObserving and reporting: Chedva H. , Revital S.11:00 -13:00Rihan We were approached by people with agriculture permits who were unable to cross through the Kapeen gate and came here. According to them, the Kapeen gate has been closed for a week now and from here, from time to time, they are permitted to cross. This time they were not. At the Tul Karm District Coordination Office, we were told that starting today, the Kapeen gate has been reopened, but anyone who did not prepare the new permits in time would not be allowed to go through. We gave them telephone numbers of the people at the Tul Karm DCO and the name of the person we had talked with, who was relatively nice and cooperative. Perhaps by next week they will be able to get to their vineyards and cultivate them.At the Ya’abed checkpoint, it sounds like there is an extra screening of passengers going to Rihan, which might explain the sparse movement of people at the checkpoint. At the vehicle inspection post, traffic was also slow. All merchandise has been unloaded from each pickup truck and all boxes were inspected thoroughly, but due to the few cars awaiting inspection, this didn’t cause delays. An elderly seam line volunteer appeared to be having a good time hanging out with the female soldiers at the inspection post. They wanted to know if we had brought some sweets for them; other then that, they had nothing to do with us. Shaked Soldiers were sitting in their Hummer and school children came over to them for the inspection, which did seem too thorough today. The man with the donkey came by, carrying a container of gas, and there was a couple with heavy baskets, on their way to the houses adjacent to the fence, on its western side.
