Sheikh Saed,Tuesday, 12.9.2006 AM Observers: Tamar A., Hana B. (reporting) This way they arrest “requested”… Sheikh Saed We arrived at the checkpoint by 07:00. The fence is surrounding the hill of Sheikh Saed and there is an opening as wide as a person. There are BP men, with reinforcement of soldiers. The schoolgirls pass without checkup, and the rest of the people were demanded to stand in line and come for checkup one after the other. One of the BP men called a young man who walked on the road by us and asked him: “where are you from?” The man answered that he comes from Sawahra. The BP man asked where he passed through and was satisfied by the answer. While we were standing and watching, suddenly there appeared a BP Jeep and a group of soldiers, their faces covered by black masks, came out of it. Along with them was a dog-care-taker (female) leading a boxer dog. She had a helmet on her head.At about 07:15 this group went up to the checkpoint and performed a weapon-checkup. A few minutes later they march on the upper road and into the village. Immediately we heard shots and saw smoke rising. The routine in the checkpoint stopped, and those in line turned their eyes away. At 07:25 the group came back with two young men. Their hands were cuffed behind their backs, and black glasses covered their eyes. The BP men were dragging them, and kicked them ferociously a few times, despite the fact that those arrested were already helpless. One of them was forced to kneel in front of the Jeep, and the dog, whose mouth was indeed in a rein, attacked him from behind. Within seconds they were both thrown into the Jeep and the whole group disappeared like they were taken by the wind. A passing by woman got into a shock, could not stand on her feet. They sat her on a car’s bumper, gave her water until she got back to herself. The checkpoint got back to normal. People around had “neither heard nor seen” any of the happening … The soldier on guard, who looks like something “is bothering him” came closer to us and tried to “justify” but the BP soldiers called him back into order immediately. An elderly woman who has a letter from the hospital is getting into an argument with a BP man demanding that he will let her go to the hospital. The BP person says: “what will the doctor tell you? Take a paracetamol”. But finally she passes.A young father has no pass permit. His small child is on his arms and he is on his way to the kindergarten. He was demanded to leave his ID with the soldiers. The child has a tag with his name, address and home phone number on his chest. A small child who starts climbing the ladder of education. The transportation to the kindergarten was delayed, but the father claims that everyday his ID is taken away from him until he comes back from escorting the child.A few minutes after the difficult happening two BP men entered the village in order to scatter those who congregated on the hilltop.A young woman escorted a girl of about 10-12 CP (cerebral palsies) on her way to the transportation like she does every day. The child has to drag herself with apparent difficulty through the rocks, garbage and fence. We “broke” and left at 08:00.
