Shekh Saed
Shekh saedSunday, 11.6.2006, PMIlana h., Hagit Sh. (reporting)A new CP between Sawahre-Al-Garbiya and Sawahre-al-Sharkiya.15:40-17:30 – At the blockade in the entrance to Shekh Saed (“it’s a border CP though it looks like a blockade” according to the BP soldier) were 3 BP soldiers. In their tent we saw gas grenades. Many people are trying to cross to Jabel mukaber. One would like to visit his father, another one to get to eye clinic and another one to return to her home. As happened last days only blue cards holders are allowed to cross. As for the ones that hold any kind of permit (work, humanitarian) – they are sent to Zeitim CP. The BP soldiers have neither idea nor interest to know where the CP they send the people is located and which way leads there.Beyond the rocks and the barbed wire some cars are parking. These are local cars which are deprived the right to get out of the neighborhood. These cars having no insurance or permit, carry fake numbers and carry people and merchandise to and from the CP for more then 2 years, since they were blocked from Jabel Mukaber. Some drivers are busy with transferring goods that were allowed to be brought into the neighborhood – from a car that brought it to the blockade. A lorry unloaded paper packages of food, another one – pieces of marble. Merchandise is not allowed to be transferred out of the neighborhood – the BPs claim that they have no means of checking the content. This ban includes even small packages that the people carry such as computers, plaster cans etc. The BPs said that it can be transferred only through Tarqomiya or Zamoriya. The BPs have no answer as for where these places are and how the locals can reach them. We have tried in vain to call the army, however, an officer that arrived (though repeating the Mantra “these are the instructions”), went out of the jeep, checked the computer and allowed to let it being crossed. That officer agreed to other appeals of people that were not let by the BPs. His consideration was done for us – or not. The drivers in place describe the way from Shekh Saed to Abu-Dis as donkeys trail. As was reported, the children are allowed to cross for school. There are difficulties there too. We were told by one of the locals that has 2 retarded brothers that study in a school of Jerusalem municipality, that some days ago these two were forced to sit on the ground by the wire with all the rest of the children on their way to school, with their hands on their heads. High school students are crossed according to lists of names. On our return we drove on the road that bends and arrives to Siluan. A few kms after Shekh Saed a narrow asphalt road splits to the right leading to a new CP ( not familiar to us). This is the place that we knew in the past when we could drive on the security road leading from Cliff Hotel, along the wall till the junction by which to the east was the road ( blocked by the wall ) to Sawahre and to the west an asphalt raod ( blocked by BP soldiers) to Jabel Mukaber. People are leaving their cars there and pass on foot. Apparently since several months a CP operates there for 24 hours. A local man explained to us that that is the connection between East Sawahre and West Sawahre which includes both Jabel Mukaber and Shekh Saed. The three BPs in place explained that they let crossing only people whose names are found in the list. All the others that carry either permit or blue ID and their names are not in the list – are sent to Zeitim CP. According to one of the passers, in order to be in the list one has to get a lawyer. The people are asked to give their number in the list in order to help the BPs to find their names. It seems to us that the number consists of 3 letters. The BPs are not the appropriate source to understand how the list is made. It’s important to find out the criteria according of which somebody could be in the list and whether it can be done only by the involvement of lawyers.
