South Hebron 22/9/04 morning,h4>Observers: Dana L., Haya H., Orit S., Yael Z (reports)We left Shoket J at 6.30 winter time, too late to watch the children on their way to school but early enough for the workers on their way to work.New CP at Sansana (on the Green Line) was moved there from Samea. The soldiers check ID of drivers but our car looks familiar and allowed to pass.Dura El Pawar J – The gate is closed, 2 soldiers checking documents of the workers mainly going towards Hebron. The soldiers in the phill box are watching from above.Yata Hebron J. (the sheep j.) The gates are closed, no soldiers are seen, people are passing from both sides, merchandises are taken by carriages Shyuch – Sair J – People are passing from both sides, no soldiers are seen.Humanitarian CP on road 35 – closed, some cars are left on the road side by people walking toward Hebron. 2 soldiers are checking documents.Halhul – Hebron bridge is closed, many cars are left at the road side and people are going along the path running down the bridge.Many orange taxis and some full tracks were seen on road 35 going towards Idna and back. All the gates on the way from the villages to the main road are closed.On the way back: Zif J. – the gate is closed nobody is crossing the road.A track was left empty and unclosed by a driver who had tried to cross the road and was stopped by the army.Back at Shoket 9.00

    • According to Wye Plantation Accords (1997), Hebron is divided in two: H1 is under Palestinian Authority control, H2 is under Israeli control. In Hebron there are 170,000 Palestinian citizens, 60,000 of them in H2. Between the two areas are permanent checkpoints, manned at all hours, preventing Palestinian movement between them and controlling passage of permit holders such as teachers and schoolchildren. Some 800 Jews live in Avraham Avinu Quarter and Tel Rumeida, on Givat HaAvot and in the wholesale market.

      6. Tarpat (1929) CP - checking inside a caravan with a magnometer
      7. Tel Rumeida CP - guarding station
      8. Beit Hadassah CP - guarding station
