| Morning

Tarqumiya Monday AM 29.5.06 Observers, Anat Shefer, Aviva Weisgal (reporting)We arrived together with two separate cars at 6 AM. Most of the people had already passed through according to the soldiers. App. 600. We observed another 100 pass through. The workers reported to us, after the check, that today things were “b’seder”. On my way to Tarqumiya I observed another fly checkpoint at the Beit Guvrin Junction. That’s about 10 klms. past Tarqumiya. What is absolutely not right is the situation of the families of prisoners, the condition of the giant pen they are forced to wait in at Tarqumiya. They wait for many hours for their Israeli chaperones (the police), and busses from the Israeli side. Their journey starts at 4:00 AM, and ends at 12 midnight. They don’t have toilets at Tarqumiya, there is no place for them to sit down when they come to visit their family members. I spoke English with the ones who do, asked questions about the sentences that their family members have been dealt. I took pictures of some strong and proud children, a grandmother and her kids. (Enclosed) I gave out the Machsom Watch cards, and my e-mail address to some of the teenagers. (That should interesting…)We left at 7:20 AM
