Tarqumiya
Tarqumiya, Sunday 9/7//06, AMHanna R.Watchers: Niva S.Arival: 5:30 AM, Departure: 6:30 AMLow cab trafficcoming in front of us indicated of a problem. Traffic is low, maybe 3 cabs on the road. At the “Mahsom” about five hundred people waiting one hour or more. Two women-soldiers are checking and threemen are guarding them. The check is quick, but anybody under 35 is not allowed to pass. All the not-allowed have confirmed pass permits. Why? No body knows. These are the new rules. The Palestinians are angry, lieing about their age, and do not understand why the rules have been changed . This causes some more delays. At some point, the ones that were not allowed to pass sat at the side and waited. Maybe something will change. Maybe they do not want to go back home? The soldiers did not like it and at some point stoped the check-process and said they will not continue until the croud is gone. The Palestinians in line asked the others to go away, and since they did not respond, one person from the line through stones on the sitting croud while telling them to go away. At last they move unwilingly. One of the cab drivers comes to me and tells me that the employer in Rishon Le’Zion called and asked about his workers. The driver toled him that it will take at least 2 hours (1 hour in line and 1 to get there). The employer asked the driver to take the workers back home. Their work day was gone. A young Palestinian, 34 years old, tells us: I have 5 kids at home, what do they want me to do? Transfer bombs? At 6:30 we leave. The line is still the same length, only different people. It is clear that 2 more soldiers checking would improve the situation. We chose not to say anything, only listen. We are in a baad mood. Our area is steaming, Kasams, artilery, strong boom noises that are disturbing our life every day and night. Where should we go?
