Tayasir, Hamra, Thursday, 13.7.06 AMObserver: Revital S (reporting)Guest: Silvia S06:30 – 08:30Tayasir Checkpoint 06:30A not too long, but very downcast, convoy of commercial vehicles, waiting in the direction of Tubas and from there to Jalame c.p to load produce. They tell us that they have been waiting since 04:30, and meanwhile the soldiers have only passed workers in the opposite direction, eastward. We are already familiar with the phenomenon, because from the other direction the (Israeli) contractors press to have the workers come on time. It is no consolation for those waiting to travel westward that the workers will have to wait hours when they return homeward after the day’s labour. The DCO representative approaches us, on his own initiative – polite and willing to explain. He confirmed the complaints and only said, in justifying the use of discretion by the checkpoint soldiers, that the transit of the workers is more urgent. Urgent for whom we ask, with a stony faced response.06:45 – they began to briskly pass traffic westward, after the line going the other way is finished. Within ten minutes all are on their way.Hamra Checkpoint 07:45Manned by plenty of soldiers, and empty of “clients.” Here again the DCO representative approached us on his initiative and was forthcoming. We made a date with Haniya in order to give her the bicycle and regards from Shula, and the boxes of clothes that I collected for her, for distribution or sale. I thought she lived in Jiftlik, and that I would be able to give her a lift with all the “booty,” but it turns out that her home is on the side where I cannot go. I asked a Palestinian with a tender to help when he stopped to pass through the checkpoint. He said he would ask the soldiers if it is alright, and would come back to us. I was sure that this was the end of our relationship. To my surprise, he did ask, was answered in the affirmative, returned and we loaded everything, whereupon he and Haniya set off happily.
