Morning

We began on Highway 5, toward Za’atara, at the Eliyahu crossing checkpoint to the West Bank.  The Border Police are inspecting cars; two with Israeli license plates are detained off to the side.

We see smoke from the olive groves along the way, police cars standing there…

A number of army jeeps at the entrance to Kifl Hars.

No soldiers at the Za’tara checkpoint, but Border Police soldiers have detained a Palestinian in the parking lot; soldiers and police officers are also stopping cars, apparently to check licenses.

No checkpoint at Huwwara, but our overall impression is of considerable military traffic on the roads.

On the way back there were soldiers at the Za’tara checkpoint toward Ramallah.  There was an army vehicle at the entrance to the quarry in Jama’in, but there were no longer jeeps at Kifl Hars.

The women at Hars waited for us, to learn knitting and English, all of us happy to see each other…
