Afternoon

We arrived at Qalandiya at 3:40 PM after encountering only light traffic on the access roads from Jerusalem.  The CP parking lot was open and there were very few people in the CP.  Despite the fact that there were soldiers on duty in three passageway “aquaria”, only one passageway was active and all those on route to Jerusalem were waiting there.  No one was waiting in the DCO passageway.  In the northern shed at the entrance to the CP Natanya met up with an old acquaintance, a member of the Fighters for Peace, who had come to Qalandiya for the first time to meet a Palestinian friend.  The CP operated in its usual manner.  We intervened only once when workers on their way to the evening shift at Atarot Industrial Park asked us why the authorities couldn’t open at least one more passageway.  We asked the soldiers in Passageway 4 if it was open and they immediately ended their “break” and opened for business.

We left the CP at 4:45 PM.
