16:30 Qalandya south - A roof is being constructed on this side too and also along the path between the south and the north (not finished yet). We had some discussions with the soldiers in the north side about how they are standing in the rain, which seems unreasonable. Our friend A. the taxi driver said that they are allowed to stop near the checkpoint in the past few days. People going from south to north are passing freely. It is problematic for those who don`t know these regulations, and who are without a permit and are later not allowed to cross back. We met, for example, a young man from Hebron who seemed completely puzzled when he wasn`t allowed to cross back to take a taxi. The soldiers told him to go to Surda and from there to Hebron. We would like to note that the army police officer (who is in command under the checkpoint commander) is quite helpful and does not like his soldiers abusing people. He ended the detention of 2 Jerusalemites who had some kind of argument with the soldiers (only after giving them a long educational talk). One of the soldiers told me "I would hit this man if I could, but I can`t so I detain him", which just showes the violent attatiude that prevails. The officer also let a man from Ram go to his home although his permit was not updated.More importantly he brings us lost IDs that he finds in the their camp (that were brought and thrown there by soldiers from the checkpoint)!
