Abu Dis, Ma'ale Adumim, Wadi Nar, Az- Za'ayyemSunday 19.12.04 AMWatchers: Dalia R. Marit T. (rep)6.30 -9.30We have got a detailed report of the new arrangements, as Abu Dis itself is hermetically closed from now on. At the other CP's - a non-event morning.6:30 Abu DisThe whole place has been radically changed. Transits gather at the petrol station. Hooting jeeps all around. The drivers told us that there is no crossing anymore. At the pishpash that was apparent. Many people are waiting at the monastery yard though there is no chance of getting over. School children included. We met Rav-Pakad E. G.. In a very polite and friendly way he gave us a detailed description of the new crossing arrangements: people have to take a transit at the eastern side of the pishpash. At the new CP on the top of the hill facing Az Za'ayyem change for a one with an Israeli license, then they are in Jerusalem. He is certain it is all in favor of the people, and was done with their full cooperation. As yet school children are still allowed to cross as before, and he invited us to see it at 2.30. He also suggested we go to Az Za'ayyem CP to see how the whole operation is carried out.8:40 Az Za'ayyem CPRP G. pointed to the taransits - those on the Israeli side and those of the Palestinian one. He said he would like MW women to meet his soldiers as to make them realize our vital task, of which he himself thinks very highly. We went to the new CP. The road is hardly passable, at least up to the point of getting at A- Tour. From there to Abu Dis, if I am not mistaken it's around 10 KM, and also one has to change cars. We talked with the drivers, our old acquaintances, they are still not too sure of how the thing will work, and whether it will not deprive them of their income. They seem to be on very good terms with RP G..9:30 Abu DisThe road from the petrol station to the pishpas looks as if in the middle of military operation. No end to the number of hooting police vehicles. People wonder around at a loss. The road up is blocked by a BP jeep. Many gather behind the closed gatesinfo-icon of the yards at the eastern side.7:35 The CP on the road from Jerico towards Ma'ale Adumim. As usual around 20 cars waiting. The soldiers are in no hurry. always 2-3 cars are detained for 10-30 minutes.7:35 Al EzariyaHardy any cars waiting. 2 transits are detained.8:10 Wadi NarLike 20 cars on their way from Bethlehem. Waiting time - more than 10 minutes. Cars heading south have to wait till there are 3-4 of them, only then the soldier there let them all pass. One car was detained and released in our presence, and released 10 minutes later.
